Recap of meeting with US Ambassador in Amman

Monday we had a meeting with the American ambassador in Amman. This was set up before arrival and we took the whole group with us which included people already in Jordan and working plus the US doctors that went over for the week-long medical mission. The meeting lasted about 1 1/2 hours and it was good. We asked for help from the US  government to get our shipments of medicine in and also with getting the government more involved in the medical missions. Help was also requested to facilitate US doctors to be allowed to work in Jordan with just their US certificates. In Jordan, like in most countries, unless you have your own mobile unit, you are not allowed to work without taking the Jordanian medical certification boards. The Ambassador said they could not help with that since it is a governmental ruling but they would try and help us with getting a medical unit in to Jordan.

We also asked why there wasn’t more of a US presence in Zaatari camp and he said they are there but funding goes through the United Nations.

He was happy that we had come and talked to him about the situation and are working on ways to continue to help the refugees. Not sure what I expected but it was a start.

He also said he would introduce us to the head of an NGO that we might partner with.
